Neighborhood Guide for Atlanta Tourists

If your next vacation has you passing through Atlanta, there is no shortage of sights and activities; like many cities, it is home a number of neighborhoods, each with their own unique flair and offerings for tourists. Here is a breakdown of the most popular areas for visitors—this guide can help you plan your itinerary and decide which part of the city you may want to stay in.


Midtown, also known as ‘’Heart of the Arts’’ is considered the most walkable of urban neighborhoods in the city. It is home to an eclectic mix of residents and housing. The area is full of shopping and dining choices and  it is especially known for its nightlife; many rooftop bars line Crescent Avenue and Peachtree Street—not only will you get a great view of the downtown area, you can catch a cooling breeze, something very welcome on a hot Atlanta night!


Buckhead is one of the swankier areas of the city and where many of the well-heeled call home. You can stroll along tree-lined streets with massive mansions. If upscale shopping and dining is your cup of tea, Buckhead will not disappoint. The night life is not as thriving as it used be, but there are a good number of bars and clubs to choose from.


The downtown area is largely comprised of government buildings and industry, but is becoming a popular area for singles and young families, who want to live in an urban center and experience the variety and convenience of such an area. Lots of entertainment and restaurants are to be found in the very walkable streets. Georgia State University is also located here and all that comes with a large college population.

Little Five Points

If you are into all that is alternative and bohemian, you will enjoy your time in Little Five Points, a neighborhood that sits between Candler Park and Inman Park. This area is home to lots of tattoo parlors, piercing shops and second hand stores. You will also find lots of great restaurants, bars, venues for live music and an active community theater.

Buford Highway

If you love areas with an eclectic mix of ethnicities and all the interesting elements that comes with that, Buford Highway is the place to be. Here you will find people from all parts of the world such as Mexico, Vietnam, Korea to name a few.  If you have a hankering for authentic ethnic cuisine, you will not be disappointed. There is also a lot of shopping here, where you can find anything from cowboy boots to Asian spices.
